McKinley Children’s Center Proudly Receives Re-Accreditation Through the Council on Accreditation (COA)

McKinley Children’s Center is proud to announce that it has achieved national re-accreditation through the New York-based Council on Accreditation (COA).

Organizations pursue accreditation to demonstrate the implementation of best practice standards in the field of human services. COA evaluated all aspects of McKinley Children’s Center’s programs, services, management, and administration.

COA accreditation is an objective, independent, and reliable validation of an agency’s performance. The COA accreditation process involves a detailed review and analysis of an organization’s administration, management, and service delivery functions against international standards of best practice. The standards driving accreditation ensure that services are well-coordinated, culturally competent, evidence-based, outcomes-oriented, and provided by a skilled and supported workforce. COA accreditation demonstrates accountability in the management of resources, sets standardized best practice thresholds for service and administration, and increases organizational capacity and accountability by creating a framework for ongoing quality improvement.

To achieve COA accreditation, McKinley Children’s Center first provided written evidence of compliance with the COA standards.  Thereafter, a group of specially trained volunteer Peer Reviewers confirmed adherence to these standards during a series of on-site interviews with trustees, staff and clients.

Providing Holiday Cheer: Toys N Joys 2018

For decades, our Toys N Joy clothing and toy drive has allowed us to provide gifts to hundreds of children that are in our Foster Family and Adoption program, attend our non-public schools, are serviced by our mental health program, or are living on our San Dimas campus through our residential program.

Southern California Edison donated more than 300 individual wish lists for our kids!

Every October, our staff reaches out to our different programs to gather a wish list from every child that will be involved with our Toys N Joys program. This ensures that each kid is making a list of exactly what they hope to receive. We work hard to gather information from the kids about everything from their clothing size to their favorite colors to their most desired gift. Wishlists are distributed to local businesses, organizations, and individuals starting in November.

Because of the amazing generosity of donors, we were able to provide gifts to over 600 McKinley children this year! We are so grateful and overwhelmed by the participation of all of those in our communities. We received such a wide variety of donations, from sweaters to dolls to board games to bicycles to gift cards.

Thank you to each and every person who helped to make the holidays brighter for our kids, many of whom have never received a gift from someone who cares. We are honored to receive your donations and are looking forward to partnering with all of our donors (current and new!) next December.
